A book is a handwritten or printed work of fiction or nonfiction, either on sheets of paper fastened or bound together within covers, or it is an electronic book (eBook).
What can be registered with the Copyright House Department of Book Copyright Registration?
The following books and literary works can be registered:
- Stories
- Fantasy books
- Children's books
- Historical books
- Literary fiction
- Mystery books
- Romantic books
- Scientific books
- Short stories
- Thrillers
- Autobiographic books
- Biographies
- Essays
- Novels
- Self-help books
- ebooks
Preparation before the registration of books
a) If your book has been created as a pdf file, then you can register it as it is.
If any part of the book, such as illustrations, has been created by somebody else, please state the name of any co-contributors and their contributions in the "Other Information" box as a disclaimer to your copyright ownership of that work.
b) If you book has not been created as a pdf file:
- Put your book, including all images, illustrations and book cover in a specific folder on your computer
- Give the folder a clear descriptive name.
- Right-click on the folder and select Send to ZIPPED (compressed) folder. This will create a ZIP file.
- Create your Copyright House account
- Log into your secure registration area
- Upload the ZIP file in your account (If any part of the book, such as illustrations, has been created by somebody else, please state the name of any co-contributors and their contributions in the "Other Information" box as a disclaimer to your copyright ownership of that work)
- Download the the book's certificate of registration and store it in the same folder as the registered work on your device and USB stick
- Register any updates to the book, give it a clear description (like my-book update1) and download its certificate of registration
How to Apply
Application of a Department of Book Copyright Registration account takes about 5 - 10 minutes.
The steps are:
- Fill out the Copyright House Department of Book Copyright Registration form
- Log into your Secure registration area
- Follow the steps of registration
- Upload the book into your Copyright House account
- Download the certificate of registration
